At the end of the First World War, the 11th of November 1918, Garrard started to plan a new future for the company. Up to this time, a specialist division of the Crown Jewellers of the same name had been working to supply the government with vital components to fight WW1. It is not absolutely certain when Garrard formally decided to make turntables. What can be said is a decision was taken to find a new future for the company followind the armistice. The wartime development of precision clockwork timing mechanisms led to the production of high performance spring motors which in turn led to Garrard Clocks and of course Garrard Turntables. The clocks became a separate company
Loricraft has produced a Garrard 601, based on the renowned 501, to celebrate this event. The picture shows the turntable with the SME M series pickup arm, a company long associated with Garrard and a perfect partner. Also featured is a Lyra Argo pickup cartridge - a wonderful trio of products.
